CONCIERGE

Some apartment buildings in French cities still have a « loge » near the entrance where the concierge lives with his or her family. The stereotypical image of the concierge is that of an amiable busybody with a tendency to spread gossip about tenants. Nowadays the term is considered slightly demeaning, and « gardien/gardienne d'immeuble » are often preferred.

CONCIERGE

In French apartment buildings, the concierge does general cleaning jobs, sees to it that no unwelcome visitors enter the building, and often also delivers mail to the occupants of the building. The concierge usually lives in a small flat (la loge) just inside the front entrance. The politically correct term for concierge is gardien/gardienne.
